I've got a 6 week old infant, and we were using Avent plastic bottles before we found out they had BPA, and we've now switched to Gerber glass bottles. The Gerber bottles we bought came with latex nipples, and we switched those out and purchased Love'n'Care variable flow nipples. Basically, we've decided to sidestep this issue and use glass bottles.

The problem is pacifiers, since we were using Avent pacifiers and our boy got very used to them, and today was his first time without his Avent pacifier, and even though we anticipated this and found around 8 different types of pacifiers that didn't contain polycarbonate, he just won't use them.

I think that like most parents we would rather be safe than sorry, and it would make sense for these companies to understand that this is the general attitude of most parents, and make products that reflect the desire of parents to be safe and cautious with their kids health, rather than have clear plastic bottles with some Disney character on them.

I am especially disappointed with Avent, since I've contacted their customer service department a few times, and on all three occasions I've been told that even though ALL their plastic products contain BPA they are unsatisfied that they pose any risk to our children. Obviously, the research is not conclusive, but I'll be voting with my feet and purchasing other products, even when Avent get their act together.

Hi Jackie,
That's a good question. Many of the companies aren't going out of their way to tell you if their bottles have BPA. However, companies with BPA-free products are very quick to tell you. BornFree (www.bornfree.com) is one option. I'd also recommend the Z Report (linked in #2 above) for additional information. Finally, you could also use glass bottles if you can't find a plastic bottle you like.

Good luck and let us know what you end up using.
